Avoiding Motion Sickness on a Plane

Do you ever get off the airplane feeling a bit queasy? There are many factors that affect your suseptability to motion sickness, but there is certainly one that you may not have taken into consideration. You probably also get sick from sitting in the back seat of a car or van.
The reason for this is the center of gravity of the vehicle you are riding in. Areas farther away from the center of gravity have more tilt and sway than those very close to the center. In a road vehicle the center of gravity is more often than not in line with the drivers seat. In an airplane however you have a different situation.

An airplane moves not only side to side while flying, but the farther you sit towards the front or back of the plane the more up and down movement you will experience. The true center of gravity of a plane usually rests near the wing section of the plane meaning that the people who are sitting over the wings are getting the smoothest ride.
Next time you jump on a plane, see if you can get the wing seats and bring a nice pair of noise canceling headphones.
