Nimmy Paul’s Cooking School is known as one of the best cooking schools in the world. They have been featured in over 10 publications including Gourmet, Travel+Leisure, Saveur, and New York magazines. Impressive considering it is run out of the home of Nimmy, Paul, and their son Joseph’s house in Kochi. It is also probably one of the most affordable private cooking lessons you will ever experience at $30 for a demonstration plus meal or $100 for a full day hands on program.

Nimmy was a local cooking teacher and caterer in Kochi, a costal town in the Kerala State. When tourism picked up in the area in the 1990s, Nimmy started bringing people into her home to show them what Kerala cooking was all about.

Kerela is in the Hindu region of southern India and its culinary dishes consist of mostly vegetarian fare as beef is strictly off limits for consumption by Hindi. This does not stop Nimmy from teaching you techniques for cooking meat, as there is a growing population of Christians in the area who do not share the same dietary or religious restrictions.

In the Peruvian Amazon, there lies a place called Kuelap that is not only older than its more famous Machu Picchu archaeological sibling, but is in fact bigger and built higher in the sky. Built in roughly 6th century AD, it sits at 3000m above sea level and is 600 meters long and 110 meters wide. Compare this to Machu Picchu at 2,430 meters above sea level with only a quarter the number of structures.

Despite what some people think, the Incan empire did not build this fortress which is considered the largest stone masonry collection in all of South America. It was the work of the Chachapoyan people as a defensive structure against hostiles. its walls are over 8 meters high covering a total distance of over 2 miles. For comparison the Great Pyramid in Egypt used around 16 million cubic metres of stone in comparison to an estimated 40 million cubic meters used to build Kuelap.

Kuelap is so lush with vegetation due to its sub tropical climate that at any given point during the year you can be treated to an array of orchids and bromeliads and other tropical trees. It is resting at the edge of the Gran Vilaya Valley and overlooks the vast Amazon basin.…

Today NASA announced the launch date for the SpaceX Dragon which will eventually be used to carry cargo and crew into space. This is a test run for what will eventually become an introduction to space tourism. Feb. 7, 2012 marks the day the Falcon 9 rocket will launch Dragon into orbit.

NASA has retired all of its shuttles recently, leaving it up to the private sector to make space, not the final frontier, but just the next one. There are several companies vying for your tourism money to get to space including Space X, Virgin Galactic, and Blue Origin.

It currently looks as if Virgin Galactic is going to come out front in this race to take people to space, and it is the only one of the three which has finalized its price tag and offering. For a measly $200,000 USD you can spend 2 days training and 3 hours floating in zero gravity staring down at all your jealous friends. Still sound a little high roller to you? Do you ever get off the airplane feeling a bit queasy? There are many factors that affect your suseptability to motion sickness, but there is certainly one that you may not have taken into consideration. You probably also get sick from sitting in the back seat of a car or van.

The reason for this is the center of gravity of the vehicle you are riding in. Areas farther away from the center of gravity have more tilt and sway than those very close to the center. In a road vehicle the center of gravity is more often than not in line with the drivers seat. In an airplane however you have a different situation.

An airplane moves not only side to side while flying, but the farther you sit towards the front or back of the plane the more up and down movement you will experience. The true center of gravity of a plane usually rests near the wing section of the plane meaning that the people who are sitting over the wings are getting the smoothest ride.
